CAREERS: Donoff & LUTZ, LLC

ATTORNEY CAREERS

Although we are not actively looking for attorneys, we will always looking to learn and improve outcomes for our claimants. To that end, we are always happy to speak to current and former Administrative Law Judges (ALJs), Office of Hearing Operations (OHO) attorneys, and Office of General Counsel (OGC) attorneys. If you can improve our practice, we are willing to offer packages that include remote or hybrid work arrangements, flexible work schedules, competitive commission-based pay structures, and/or profit-sharing distributions.

For example, if you are a retiring ALJ interested working part-time and supplementing your retirement benefits, while still having the flexibility to travel or spend time with your family, we are happy to discuss “Of Counsel” positions where you can represent claimants at remote hearings. Or, if you are a former OGC attorney and you want a steady offering of federal  appeals—and commission-based pay that more-than-doubles what the major national federal appeal firms offer—we can probably make it work.

If you would like to speak, please email disability@donofflutz.com.

Please note: In order to provide excellent representation to claimants, we consider it necessary to appeal some claims to federal court. Accordingly, our firm has not previously hired non-attorney representatives.

PARALEGAL CAREERS

We love our jobs and helping our claimants. If you are looking for a happy, stable career and an opportunity to make a difference in the world, we think that our firm provides a home for that. We look to create a happy, relaxed office environment—beware Gordon, our office dog, and that attorney Rebecca will heavily guilt you into dressing up for the Halloween party—that remains unfailingly committed to winning benefits for our claimants and providing them a personal, “boutique” experience.

Please note that we are interested in offering careers, not jobs. Our managing attorney started as a file clerk when he was 13 (per his insistence, paid in meatball subs). More than half of our paralegals have started at our front desk, answering phones and learning the ins and outs, before taking on more responsibilities. We have had multiple paralegals work here for 30+ years and become our indispensable friends. We therefore do not need you to have any particular skills. It is our job to teach you how to do the work. Instead, we look for people with attitude and aptitude: We are not a place for someone who wants to clock in, turn their brain off, and go through the motions. You also cannot turn your nose up at helping a homeless man who cannot read.

From your first day at the firm, we offer 18 paid time off (PTO) days per year, reimburse for valet parking, keep the office well-stocked with snacks and espresso pods, and have a 401k plan with matching contributions and profit-sharing distributions.

If you see a position posted on a job platform, we request that you apply and communicate through that platform. If you do not see a posting, we are not probably not hiring at the moment. If you would like, you can still email your resume and references to disability@donofflutz.com and we will keep your information filed, in case we have an opening soon.

Even when we are not looking to expand, we will always speak to anyone who has unique experiences that can improve our firm. For example, if you have experience working for the Social Security Administration (whether at a local office or a hearing office) or a state Disability Determination Services (DDS), we are always happy to hear from you. If you would like to connect, please email disability@donofflutz.com.
