Veterans Disability

Veterans Affairs disability benefits (often called VA disability) are monthly, tax-free payments provided by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs to veterans who suffer from injuries or medical conditions connected to their military service. These monthly benefits compensate veterans for the impact that their service-connected disabilities have on their health, ability to work, and daily life. The amount of compensation depends on the severity of a veteran’s condition. VA disability may make veterans eligible for a range of non-monetary benefits, including VA health care, prescription coverage,  specialized treatment for service-connected conditions, vocational rehabilitation, education benefits, housing grants, property tax relief, and  compensation for dependents. These benefits are intended to support veterans’ long-term health, stability, and quality of life after service.

Given our proximity to Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, many veterans call Dayton, Ohio home. Many veterans, of course, have apparent physical limits, ranging from traumatic amputations to long-progressing, debilitating back problems. Many veterans also have service-connected mental health issues, including post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), that can equally reduce their quality of life. Through some clients that became friends, we have learned about many of the joys and difficulties of military life. We strongly believe that the “Pottery Barn rule”—you break it, you buy it—creates the promise that Americans will reimburse veterans for the suffering and sacrifices that continue long after military service ends.

Please note that we generally only represent veterans pro bono, and due to capacity limits, we direct most veterans to Veterans Service Organizations (VSOs) that provide free representation to veterans. We have high opinions of the VSOs near Dayton, Ohio and trust that they can provide excellent representation in most cases. In appropriate circumstances, we can offer to refer veterans to other law firms. If you are interested in discussing a VA disability claim, please call our office and ask for attorney and VA-accredited representative Zachary Lutz. Again, while we may not join your case, we are always happy to speak to veterans about possible disability benefits, even if we only offer informal counsel.
